Ordering Sensaphonics Products

Because our products are custom-fitted and individually made, we sell our earphones and earplugs on a manufacturer-direct basis. The first step in the procedure is to visit an audiologist. We strongly recommend that you use this opportunity to have your hearing tested.

Over time, we have developed the Sensaphonics Certified Audiology Network, a group that is dedicated to meeting the special needs of musicians and sound engineers. They are trained to help you select the appropriate product and form precision ear impressions for a comfortable, precise fit. Your audiologist will also educate you on the proper insertion and use of your earphones and/or earplugs. Within the network, our Golden Circle audiologists have been personally trained by Sensaphonics founder Michael Santucci, who has provided earphones and audiology services to more musicians than any other person in the world.

1. Select an audiologist from the Sensaphonics Certified Audiology Network. If there is none in your area, phone us (toll-free in U.S.) at 877-848-1714 for a referral.

2. Have your hearing checked, and have your ear impressions taken. The cost of this procedure varies, and is not included in the price of Sensaphonics products.

3. The audiologist then downloads our order form, orders your product and ships your ear impressions to us for custom manufacturing. Page 2 of the order form includes instructions for the audiologist; see Getting Ear Impressions (PDF).

4. Upon completion, we ship the product back to your audiologist, who will instruct you on the insertion and proper use. Those who have used in-ear products in the past or who may be on tour can, of course, make arrangements for direct shipment of the finished product.

It is also possible for you to visit your own audiologist, have impressions taken, and order the product directly using our downloadable order form. It is, however, critical, that the impressions be properly made.

About Ear Impressions

Your audiologist needs to know that we require your earpiece molds to be a full shell impression, including the helix portion of your ear. The impressions should go past the second bend of your ear canal. See our one-page PDF, Getting Ear Impressions. We are experts at facilitating this process, so contact Sensaphonics if you or your audiologist has any uncertainty.

NOTE: We require that ear impressions be taken using a silicone impression material. We cannot accept impressions made from a liquid-and-powder mixture. Liquid-and-powder material can distort easily and is prone to shrinkage, resulting in a poor fit.

When making ear impressions, start with your jaw open. As the silicone material sets (under ten minutes), move your jaw to replicate the facial movements you make while performing. Vocalists should sing; wind instrument players should bring a mouthpiece and play while the material is setting.

Shipping Policy

All new orders for Sensaphonics products are shipped via UPS ground service unless otherwise requested. We will, of course, ship via Next Day Air, 2nd day, or 3rd day upon request. Rates for both U.S. and International orders are determined by the actual cost to the destination. Of course, we will gladly ship via your preferred carrier, using your account. Sensaphonics does NOT add a handling charge.

Warranty policy

Sensaphonics custom-fit products carry an unconditional warranty of 30 days on fit and one year against manufacturing defects.

We will remake any product returned for poor fit within 30 days of purchase. In this situation, go back to the audiologist who took your ear impressions. Your audiologist will check for proper insertion and fit, then determine what alterations are needed and consult with us to remedy the situation.

If your earphones are malfunctioning as a result of a manufacturing defect, we will repair the product at no charge within one year of the date of purchase (policy effective March, 2005).

The following are not covered under warranty: cord damage; failure or improper function due to wax in the earpiece; abusive damage to the earpiece; and any earpiece modifications by non-Sensaphonics personnel.

Finally, due to the individualized nature of our custom-made products, we cannot offer refunds under any conditions.
