Sensaphonics owner Michael Santucci to co-facilitate AES Workshop on In-Ear Monitors.

Mixing techniques, artist demands and product safety to be discussed.

October 7, 2005 ( Chicago , IL ) Sensaphonics Inc., makers of custom earpieces for musicians, confirmed today that company founder Michael Santucci will co-facilitate a panel discussion at the 2005 Audio Engineering Society (AES) convention in New York . Using the popular round-table format, the workshop will focus on the topic “Mixing with In-ear Monitors: The whys, the hows, and how much is too much?”

Confirmed panelists include touring monitor engineers Ian Kuhn (Dave Matthews Band), John Bruey (Bruce Springsteen, Goo Goo Dolls), Brian Bavido (Lisa Loeb, Dashboard Confessional), and Jeff Pelletiere (Willow Creek Community Church). “This should be a really great panel,” said Santucci, “because it won't be just another rehash of the same old research in acoustics and audiology. Instead, we're going to have real monitor engineers talking how they use ear monitors in the real world. I'm looking forward to a great discussion.” Audience participation will be encouraged by co-facilitator Rachel Cruz, a research audiologist with the House Ear Institute of Los Angeles. The workshop will be moderated by Bob Schulein, chairman of the AES Technical Committee on Hearing and Hearing Loss Prevention.

Sponsored by the AES Technical Committee on Hearing and Hearing Loss Prevention, the goal of the workshop is to focus on the practical, technical, and clinical aspects of in-ear monitor systems, their potential benefits and drawbacks. Topics such as artist expectations and needs, realistic approaches to hearing conservation in professional audio, and the differences between mixing for in-ear systems and conventional floor wedges, will all be addressed.

The AES “Mixing with In-Ear Monitors” workshop will take place at the Javits Convention Center in New York on Monday, October 10, beginning at 2:30 p.m.
