Sensaphonics 3D Active Ambient IEM System Now Shipping
System uses embedded microphones to add selectable level of stage ambience to in-ear monitor mix.

Chicago, IL (July 14, 2006) - Sensaphonics Hearing Conservation is now shipping its new 3D Active Ambient in-ear monitor (IEM) system. The system uses highly sensitive, precision-equalized microphones embedded within custom molded silicone earphones to add full-range, natural ambience to the in-ear mix at the flip of the switch. The 3D body-pack handles the task of combining the ambient sound with the in-ear mix, using a patent-pending signal processing system to ensure smooth, full-bandwidth frequency response with zero latency.

The 3D Active Ambient offers two operating modes for ease of operation on stage, easily accessed via a toggle switch on the body-pack. In Performance Mode, the in-ear mix is controlled normally, with the ambient sound added at the user's choice of level (anywhere from "full" to "off"). In Full Ambient mode, the on-stage sound is presented at unity gain - the equivalent of removing the earpieces from one's ears - while monitor levels are dynamically reduced to permit conversation. With the earpiece microphones acting as a binaural pickup system, the artist hears all ambient sound - audience reaction, drums, and amps - with all directional cues intact.

Like all Sensaphonics IEM products, the 3D Active Ambient is based around soft gel silicone custom earpieces, an industry exclusive. Using a new hybrid driver, the 3D earpiece actually outperforms Sensaphonics' acclaimed 2X-S model with just a single driver. The dual-driver version offers even greater headroom along with greater bass response. Handcrafted in Sensaphonics on-site lab, the one-piece silicone design provides unrivalled comfort and superior fit, and will not harden, rip, shrink, or break. In response to requests from sound engineers, the 3D earphones utilize a rugged, field-replaceable cable.

"For years, we've seen performers taking off one, or both, of their ear monitors because they couldn't hear everything they wanted with their ears sealed," says Sensaphonics president and CEO Michael Santucci. "The 3D Active Ambient solves that problem so that musicians can finally hear everything around them without compromising the hearing safety advantages of in-ear monitors."

Operationally, the 3D Active Ambient works as an easy-to-use adjunct to a wireless IEM system. The only external controls on the body-pack are switches for power and operating mode, while five LEDs signal operating conditions at a glance. Inside, a volume control for ambience level and a limiter defeat switch are easily accessible. The system is conservatively rated to operate for five hours on a 9V alkaline battery.

Sensaphonics will be offering the demonstrations of the 3D Active Ambient IEM system at the NAMM Summer Session in Austin, July 14-16, 2006.
