3D Bodypack Mixers

Both the original 3D Active Ambient system and the 3D hardwired utilize a compact bodypack mixer to combine ambient audio with the in-ear mix. Both mixers are easy to set up and use, requiring only a power switch and 2-way Mode switch (plus a Monitor volume control on the hardwired version). A group of five LEDs show operating conditions at a glance. The 3D mixer gets at least 6 hours of operation and weights under 5 ounces with 9V alkaline battery.

Inside, the mixer houses three simple controls:

  • Ambient Background level control - This is an 8-position rotary switch used to set the amount of ambient sound from the earphone mics to be included in the Perform mode mix. It should be set prior to each performance, as stage levels will vary.
  • Limiter on/off switch - Our engineers have designed a very musical compression system that protects the user from overly loud sounds. This switch is set to "on" at the factory.
  • Earphone switch. This switch is a factory pre-set, optimizing electronics to match the earphone model being used (3D-1 or 3D-2).

Available models:

  • 3D-M - stereo mini-pin (1/8") input, for use with wireless IEM systems
  • 3D-L - stereo LEMO input, for direct hardwired connection via dual XLR cables

Model 3D-M Bodypack Mixer (3DAA IEM system)

3D-M Bodypack Mixer

The only external controls are a recessed power switch and an easy-access toggle for switching between Perform and Full Ambient modes. The 3D-M mixer is worn alongside your wireless IEM receiver pack, connected via a short jumper cable. The volume of the monitor mix is controlled from the wireless bodypack. The 12-inch jumper cable has 1/8-inch stereo plugs, suitable for connection to most common audio sources (wireless IEM receivers, portable music players, laptop computers, etc.).

Model 3D-L Bodypack Mixer (3DHW hardwired IEM system)

3D-L Bodypack Mixer

Designed for drummers and keyboard players, the 3D-L takes its monitor mix directly from the mixing desk (instead of a companion wireless system) via a stereo LEMO connector. In addition to the Power and Mode switches, the 3D-L mixer has an external volume knob to control the monitor mix level. The system is shipped complete with a 9-foot, heavy-duty cable (LEMO to dual XLR) for connection directly to the monitor mix output.

Both 3D bodypack mixers are molded from high-impact ABS plastic; measure just 2.9 inches tall, 2.3 inches wide and 1.15 inches deep (plus protrusions); and weigh less than 5 ounces with battery. Operating time is conservatively rated at 6 hours.

Cleaning Instructions

  1. Before each use, inspect the sound ports of your earpieces. We recommend working in a clean, well-lit space.
  2. Using the wire loop on one end of the supplied cleaning tool, remove any cerumen (earwax) from inside the sound ports.
  3. Use the brush on the other end of the cleaning tool to clear the cerumen and other debris away from the sound ports.

Deep inside each sound output port is a small mesh filter. The filter ensures smooth frequency response while keeping cerumen (earwax) away from the miniature drivers (speakers). If your earphones should become so clogged that you cannot clear the sound ports with your cleaning tool, it may become necessary to have the internal filters replaced by Sensaphonics. If this situation arises, please contact us immediately.

MICROPHONE PORTS

The tiny microphones within your earpieces form a binaural system. This provides extremely accurate location cues for ambient sounds. The mics are protected by filters in the form of grey acoustic mesh encased in small silver barrels, which also helps ensure a full, natural frequency response.

The microphone ports face outward, with the filters located just inside the opening. Like the in-ear sound output ports, the microphone ports must be kept clear of debris. Inspect your earpieces prior to every use. Carefully use the supplied cleaning tool to brush away any debris.

3D Earphone Cable
The custom earphone cord is 48 inches long (custom lengths available) and field replaceable. The cable is both flexible and heavy duty, and should not fail in normal service. Integral bend maintainers to help retain a nice fit over the ears. The cable is secured to a 4-pin receptacle within each earpiece with a nylon pan head screw.
