Earphone Level Measurement
The dB Check is calibrated to provide an a true A-weighted measurement of the sound level produced by your Sensaphonics earphones* by averaging the input drive voltage over time. Just follow these simple steps:
 - Plug the supplied interconnect cable into the audio input jack and connect the other end into the IEM bodypack (or other audio source) headphone jack.
- Connect your Sensaphonics earphones* to the earphone jack on the dB Check.
- Power the dB Check by pressing and holding any control. The unit will automatically power up in the Audio (earphone) measurement mode. Only the blue LED will be lit.
- Use the Menu Select switch to toggle between Device (earphone models) and Duration (time period). Use the Audio (up) and Mic (down) buttons to change settings.
- For Device, select your Sensaphonics earphones* (2X-S, 2MAX or 3D).
- For Duration, select the desired time period (from 1-120 minutes) for measurement.
The dB Check begins measuring immediately after the hearing test reminder screen scrolls by, or when new Menu selections are made.
Results
After a measurement is completed, the red and blue buttons will flash and measurement results are shown on the LCD display. The first line shows the average A-weighted SPL in decibels. The second line indicates the recommended maximum daily exposure limits, in minutes, according to NIOSH (n) and OSHA (o) guidelines. Use this information to adjust your listening to safe levels in accordance with the typical length of your performance. Sensaphonics strongly recommends using the NIOSH scale as your guide.
After a measurement, the LCD display stays unchanged until the dB Check is powered off. To take another measurement, power the unit off, then on.
* CAUTION!! USE WITH SENSAPHONICS EARPHONES ONLY!
To accurately measure the sound pressure level (SPL) reaching the ear canal requires the true output sensitivity and isolation characteristics of the earphones. Only Sensaphonics earphones have the precision fit, components and quality control to meet those requirements. The published specifications and fit characteristics of other earphone brands vary widely. Using dB Check with other earphone brands will yield inaccurate, misleading and potentially dangerous results.
NOTE: dB Check automatically saves the settings from the previous session as defaults for the next session.
NOTE: The on-board microphone can be used to speak directly to the dB Check user. Press the MIC switch; it will glow red. While in this mode, the Mic level can be controlled over a +10 to -30 dB volume range by scrolling the Select wheel. Sounds picked up by this microphone will be included in a measurement, creating inaccurate readings on the LCD display. It is recommended that the Mic button (red) be turned off during a measurement duration period.
