Room Level Measurement
The on-board microphone incorporated into dB Check allows it to be used as a standard dB meter for room measurements. This works much the same as earphone level measurement.
 - Power the dB Check by pressing and holding any button.
- Press and hold the MIC Mode button to activate; it will glow red.
- Disengage the AUDIO (blue) button (press and hold) so the light goes out.
- Use the Menu Select switch to toggle to the Duration screen
- Using the Audio (up) and Mic (down) buttons, select the desired Duration (1-120 minutes). dB Check will begin measuring levels as soon as the Duration is selected.
Note: This measurement will not be affected by the earphone ("Device") setting.
Results
When the selected Duration expires, the red and blue buttons will flash and measurement results are shown on the LCD display. The first line shows the average A-weighted SPL in decibels. The second line indicates the recommended maximum daily exposure limits, in minutes, according to NIOSH (n) and OSHA (o) guidelines. Use this information to achieve safe levels of ambient sound. Sensaphonics strongly recommends using the NIOSH scale as your guide.
After a measurement, the LCD display stays unchanged until the dB Check is powered off. To take another measurement, power the unit off, then on.
NOTE: One can monitor a Room Level Measurement through earphones. While doing so, the level heard in the earphones can be changed by scrolling the Select wheel. This will not affect the accuracy of the measurement.
